Owls Take Runner-Up Hardware at Grady County Tournament
The Owls earned their third runner-up trophy of the season, falling in the championship game of the 2020 Grady County Tournament. Their run started with a 58-40 victory over Verden. Their opponents in the semi-finals would be the 18th ranked Amber-Pocasset Panthers. After falling behind early, the Owls took over in the second half to secure the 56-51 win. That set up the showdown with the #1 seed & 5th ranked Minco Bulldogs in the championship. The Owls fought hard and kept the outcome in doubt for much of the game, trailing only 40-49 with 5:30 left in the contest. However, cold shooting down the stretch was too much to overcome. This was the Owls’ first trip to the championship game in the prestigious Grady County Tournament since 2009. “That team had many of the same qualities that this year’s team has” shared Coach Glen Shoemake, who last coached during that season before returning to the sidelines this year. “Both teams work hard, support each other, & love basketball. Even though we haven’t won that elusive championship, I am very proud of what the team has accomplished. We have 7 regular season games left & want to keep improving in order to make a deep playoff run. I am very blessed to be coaching some remarkable young men and to share it with my son Tanner as my assistant is really fun.”  #GOOWLS
